How to Leave TikTok Creator Rewards Program: The $50 Exit Rule
How to leave the TikTok Creator Rewards Program, and why your balance should be over $50 first. Covers TikTok's July 2026 US terms, clawbacks and 1099 taxes.
To leave, use the “cancellation process” on the Creator Rewards Program page inside the TikTok app. Your exit becomes official only when TikTok sends you a termination notice in the app. Under TikTok’s current US terms, leftover estimated rewards are paid out only if they’re above $50 when you go, so check your balance before you start.
Payday snapshot
- Threshold to get paid: To join, you must be 18+, a legal resident of a country where the program runs, and have 10,000 authentic followers and 100,000 authentic views in the last 30 days. You also need a personal (non-Business) account, a payment account in your own name and completed tax reporting documents. Payouts go out once your balance passes $50.
- Typical earnings range: TikTok doesn’t publish a rate. Third-party estimates cluster around $0.40 to $1.00 per 1,000 qualified views. These are estimates, not TikTok figures.
- Time to first payout: Rewards are calculated in the month after you earn them and paid on the 15th once you’re over $50. If you leave with more than $50, that balance gets paid. A balance of $50 or less risks expiring.
The Rules Behind the Exit Button
Every rule here comes from TikTok’s Creator Rewards Program Terms for the US, last updated July 20, 2026.
- Section 4 says you may end your participation “at any time by following the cancellation process.” It points to a cancellation page on the Creator Rewards Program Page in the app.
- Leaving takes effect “upon TikTok’s delivery of a termination notice through the Platform.” Your request starts the process and TikTok’s notice ends it. The terms don’t set a waiting period.
- After you leave, TikTok owes you nothing, with one exception. If your estimated rewards are above $50 when you leave, TikTok pays “all such undisputed estimated amounts” you earned while following the rules.
- A balance of $50 or less doesn’t fall under that exception. Separately, Section 3 says balances below the threshold “may be deemed expired.” No clause says “leave with $49 and it’s gone,” but taken together, these two clauses put that money at risk.
- Section 8 lets creators who disagree with updated terms leave at any time. TikTok says it “will endeavor” to give notice of changes.
Check Your Balance Before You Tap Anything
Your Creator Rewards dashboard shows estimated earnings in USD every day. Before you start the exit, check your current estimated balance.
Above $50? You’re in the payout lane. Screenshot the balance, then go ahead.
$50 or under? You can leave now and risk losing it, or post a few more eligible videos to clear the line. US eligible videos must be at least 1 minute long and posted publicly.
For example, say your dashboard shows $38, and we assume you earn $0.70 per 1,000 qualified views (roughly the middle of the third-party estimates). At that rate you’d need about 17,000 more qualified views to close the $12 gap. Your real rate could be much higher or lower, because payouts vary heavily by niche and by the countries your audience watches from. TikTok can also cap rewards monthly or annually. For how creators estimate their rate, see our breakdown of what the TikTok Creator Rewards Program pays.
How to Leave, Step by Step
- Screenshot your dashboard with the balance and date visible. If the final payment looks wrong, this is your evidence.
- Confirm your payout details. Payments go through PayPal/Hyperwallet, and you pay any transfer fees. Make sure the linked account is active and in your name, and that your tax info is complete. TikTok pays no reward until it has your tax information.
- Open the Creator Rewards Program page in the app, where the terms place the cancellation page. Choose the option to cancel or exit, then confirm.
- Wait for TikTok’s termination notice in the app, and screenshot it.
- Watch for the final payment. TikTok pays on the 15th of each month, so if you left with more than $50, check your payout account around that date.
- If something looks off, raise it fast. Disputes about payment, accounting or termination must be raised within 30 days, or you lose the right.
Can’t Find the Exit Option?
TikTok’s help center page for the program wouldn’t load during our research. The tap-by-tap paths on third-party sites also contradict each other: some go through TikTok Studio, others through Settings. The official terms only mention a “cancellation process” on the Creator Rewards Program Page, so start there, and keep in mind that app menus move between updates.
If the option isn’t there, contact TikTok through the in-app help or feedback tools and ask for help cancelling. TikTok’s European program terms name “the Feedback functionality” as the way to withdraw. That wording is from the EEA terms, not the US ones, so use it as a fallback rather than the official US method.
Voluntary Exit vs Getting Removed
TikTok can also end your participation immediately, including for failing to “meet or maintain the eligibility requirements,” which apply “at all times.” Switching to a Business account or moving out of an eligible country could trigger this. That’s TikTok’s decision, though, and the terms don’t say whether that kind of removal counts as “for cause.” A for-cause removal means forfeiting unpaid rewards.
| Scenario | What happens to your balance | Can you come back? |
|---|---|---|
| You leave voluntarily, balance above $50 | Undisputed estimated rewards get paid | Terms don’t say |
| You leave voluntarily, balance $50 or less | Not covered by the payout clause; may expire | Terms don’t say |
| TikTok removes you “for cause” | Unpaid rewards are forfeited | No, you can’t reapply |
| Your application was rejected (never joined) | Nothing earned | Reapply after 30 days |
If TikTok removes you, the terms say you can appeal “within the prescribed timeframe.” A voluntary exit with more than $50 on the dashboard is the most predictable route.
What Creators Wish They’d Known
Clawbacks outlast your membership. If TikTok later decides you were ineligible, it deducts the overpayment from future rewards. Once you’ve left there’s nothing to deduct from, so the terms require you to repay within 30 days of written notice. Bought views, paid engagement and view-boosting tools can all lead to excluded rewards, forfeiture and clawbacks. Stay away from them.
Rejoining is an open question. The US terms don’t say whether a creator who left voluntarily can reapply. Plan as if leaving could be permanent.
Side effects are undocumented. We found nothing official on whether leaving affects LIVE gifts, subscriptions, TikTok Shop or video reach. Be skeptical of anyone who claims to know.
“Rewards” sites are not the program. Malwarebytes warns about fake TikTok rewards sites that show invented balances, countdown timers and a new withdrawal “requirement” every time you get close, then ask for bank or ID details. The real program pays only for eligible original videos, never for tasks on outside sites.
The Tax Bill Doesn’t Leave With You
Quitting doesn’t cancel taxes on what you earned this year. This is general information, not tax advice, so check your own situation with a tax professional.
- The IRS says gig income must be reported even if you never get a 1099 or W-2.
- For payments made after December 31, 2025, the 1099-NEC threshold is $2,000, up from $600. Processors like PayPal file a 1099-K only above $20,000 and 200 transactions. Income is still taxable when no form arrives.
- Self-employment tax is 15.3% once net self-employment earnings reach $400. If you expect to owe $1,000 or more, you’ll generally need quarterly estimated payments on Form 1040-ES.
Revenue Streams, Ranked After You Quit
Leaving Creator Rewards switches off one platform payout. Your brand deals and affiliate links are separate agreements that the program terms don’t cover, so track them separately.
- Small accounts: Affiliate links and small paid collabs usually matter more than a rewards balance struggling to clear $50. Your own products are another option: see the rules for selling digital products on TikTok.
- Mid-size accounts: Sponsorships and UGC deals priced per deliverable become the main income, and your watch-time and engagement data are your pitch. Our sponsorship playbook covers outreach.
- Large accounts: A mix of brand deals, affiliate income and other platforms, with rewards as a side bucket at most. For cross-platform pricing, see our Instagram sponsorship rate guide.
What each stream pays still depends heavily on your niche and where your audience lives.
FAQ
Will I lose my money if I leave the TikTok Creator Rewards Program?
Not if your estimated balance is above $50. TikTok’s US terms say it pays undisputed estimated rewards above that minimum when you leave. At $50 or less, the payout clause doesn’t apply and the balance may expire.
How long does leaving take?
It’s official when TikTok sends a termination notice in the app. The US terms give no fixed waiting time.
Can I rejoin after leaving?
The US terms don’t say for voluntary exits. Creators removed for cause can’t reapply, and rejected applicants can reapply after 30 days.
Does leaving hurt my reach or LIVE gifts?
TikTok has published nothing official on this that we could find, so nobody can promise either way.
Do I still owe taxes on rewards if I quit?
Yes. Everything you earned is reportable income, whether or not you get a 1099. Self-employment tax applies once net earnings reach $400.
Your Next 30 Days
- Week 1: Screenshot your dashboard, confirm your PayPal/Hyperwallet account and tax info are current, and decide whether to push your balance past $50 first.
- Week 2: If you’re under the line, post a few public, 1-minute-plus original videos. Once you’re clearly over $50, start the cancellation from the Creator Rewards Program page.
- Week 3: Save the termination notice, note when your 30-day dispute window ends, and shift your posting plan toward brand deals and affiliate content.
- Week 4: Add up this year’s rewards income, set money aside for self-employment tax, and watch for your final payment on the 15th.
Creator FAQ
Will leaving Creator Rewards hurt my reach on the For You feed?
TikTok hasn’t published anything we could find linking program membership to reach, in either direction. Anyone promising a reach boost or a penalty after you leave is guessing. Keep an eye on your own analytics for a few weeks after the exit and judge from your own numbers.Do videos I already posted keep earning after I leave?
We found no official answer. The terms say TikTok has no further payment obligations once termination takes effect, apart from paying out an estimated balance above $50. So plan as if earnings stop once the termination notice arrives, and screenshot your dashboard before you leave. Can I just delete my TikTok account instead of leaving the program?
We found nothing official on what deleting your account does to unpaid rewards. The safer order is to leave the program while your balance is above $50, wait for the final payment, and only then think about deleting the account.Does TikTok take a cut of the final payout?
TikTok sends rewards through PayPal/Hyperwallet, and the terms say the creator pays any transfer fees. TikTok doesn’t list the fee amounts in the terms, so check what your payout provider charges before the 15th.I applied and got rejected. Is there anything to leave?
No. You were never in the program, so there’s no balance and nothing to cancel. The US terms say rejected applicants can reapply after 30 days, as long as they meet the follower, view, age and account requirements.
